Start with the official quiz tool
The official Boreen Table Quiz ↗ draws on past questions for a pub, club or school quiz. Its introduction says teams can write up to three answers per round and rarer ones score more. Use that tool to obtain the actual questions. We do not redistribute them.
Choose the format you can see
On 2 November 2026, the official setup screen offered 6, 8 or 10 rounds, category choices and a journey selector. Categories included Irish life, Geography, Music & entertainment, History, Sport, Culture & language, General knowledge and an Any option. The screen also offered “Surprise me”.
- Open the official Table Quiz page.
- Choose a round count that fits your session.
- Select a category or keep the broad Any option.
- Use the journey control if you want to restrict the source games.
- Follow the tool’s current on-screen instructions to generate and run the quiz.
These steps describe the visible setup controls. We have not verified every generated quiz flow, printing behaviour or later release.
Points, not kilometres
| Tier | Table quiz points |
|---|---|
| Robin | 1 |
| Hedgehog | 2 |
| Red Fox | 3 |
| Irish Hare | 4 |
| Red Squirrel | 5 |
| Golden Eagle | 6 |
Table-quiz points are separate from daily kilometres. In the generated quiz checked on 2 November 2026, the host adds the printed points for each distinct listed response, up to three responses per team. Other responses earn zero; a duplicate is counted once and close spellings are allowed. The master sheet gives the maximum for each particular round: it is not always 18.
Run and mark one round
We generated an actual six-round quiz using past Journey #001 and inspected its team and quizmaster output. It is a printable host-led workflow, not three online submissions that this guide can score for you.
- Choose the official rounds/categories/journeys, then select Surprise me. Check the generated question before sharing it.
- Use Print team sheets for players and keep Print quizmaster sheet with the host. Check print preview so answer material is not handed out with team sheets.
- Read a round and its restriction. Teams write at most three responses; collect them before consulting or revealing the master material. The collection/reveal order is our hosting recommendation.
- Look up each response on that round’s master sheet. Award its displayed points, treat an unlisted response as zero, count duplicate entries only once, and allow close spelling according to the sheet.
- Add the accepted distinct entries to obtain the team’s round total, then record it on your own score sheet. This generated output does not provide a live team scoreboard.
Worked marking example (invented labels, not official answers): entry A is listed at 6 points, B at 2 and C is unlisted: the total is 8. If A appears twice plus B, the total is still 8. Use the maximum printed for that round when checking a score; one inspected round had a maximum of 14.
Keep the generated link for a co-host so both use the same set. If you change a round or generate again, check that the master and team material still correspond. We have not created a private league, tested a live group event or verified every generated quiz variant. Inspect the same official six-round example ↗
A host checklist you can use
- Explain the difference between a valid answer and a rare one before the first round.
- Provide paper or another agreed way to record up to three answers.
- Keep the question, answer and score material separate until the reveal.
- Read category restrictions clearly so teams know the same boundary.
- Use the official output to settle accepted answers; do not improvise a frequency score.
- Agree how to handle disputed spellings before collecting scores.
These are our hosting suggestions. They are not additional official rules or permission to reproduce the game’s material elsewhere.
What about a private league?
Cork Beo reports that Boreen supports leagues with friends. We have not verified the current league creation flow or account requirements, so we do not invent a code format or joining procedure. Check the official game’s current controls. A daily league and a hosted table quiz are different ways to play together.

A real generated quiz with team and quizmaster material. Per-round instructions give points for each distinct listed answer, zero for other responses, close-spelling allowance and a round-specific maximum. The full question/answer material is not republished.
